The second phase of voting for the five parliamentary constituencies in Assam passed off peacefully with a voter turnout around 70.68 per cent till the time of filing of this report.
Assam voted in the 2nd phase of parliamentary elections peacefully on Friday for the Darrang-Udalguri, Nagaon, Diphu, Silchar and Karimganj constituencies. In this phase 61 candidates, including two women were in fray. Karimganj Parliamentary constituency has the highest 24 candidates while Diphu has five candidates. Chief Electoral Officer, Assam informed that voting were held at 9,133 polling stations amid tight security and webcasting in around 55 percent polling stations. 143 companies of security forces were deployed in these five constituencies. Polling officials are bringing back the EVMs to the strong rooms with GPS enabled tracking vehicles after the successful conclusion of voting. Meanwhile, political parties are campaigning aggressively for the final third phase of the Lok Sabha election in the state.
