National Voters’ Day being celebrated across the country

The 15th National Voters’ Day is being celebrated across the country on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the people on National Voters’ Day. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that the day is about celebrating India’s vibrant democracy and empowering every citizen to exercise their right to vote. He added that it highlights the importance of participation in shaping the nation’s future. Prime Minister Modi also lauded the Election Commission for their exemplary efforts in this regard.

President Droupadi Murmu will attend the main function in New Delhi. Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, along with the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners, will also be present at the event. The function will also be attended by heads and representatives of Election Management bodies, who deliberated on major issues faced in election management around the world during a two-day conference that concluded yesterday.

       

This year’s theme is, ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure. It is a continuation of last year’s theme emphasizing the importance of participation in the electoral process, and encouraging voters to take pride in exercising their franchise.

       

During the event, President Murmu will present the Best Electoral Practices Awards to state and district officials for their exemplary efforts in ensuring smooth elections. Special recognition will be given to initiatives that increased voter participation, such as innovative outreach campaigns and the use of technology.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has said that National Voters Day is not just an occasion to celebrate the inception of Election Commission but also an opportunity to honour the very spirit of democracy. In his message on the occasion of 15th National Voters Day, Mr Kumar said, this year’s National Voters Day is special as Election Commission of India completes 75 years of service to the nation. The Chief Election Commissioner said, in 2024, the world witnessed the grand spectacle of India creating a world record of 64.6 crore voters exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls.
