15th Finance Commission Chairman NK Singh supports inception of ONOE

Chairman of 15th Finance Commission NK Singh has supported the inception of One Nation, One Election (ONOE) for better economic growth and political stability of the country.

Mr. Singh, who is a member of the ONOE Committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, said the committee has made three recommendations and two Constitutional amendments suggestions including fixation of tenure of Lok Sabha and State Assemblies for the five years.

The expert said that we have also pressed in the report that Municipality and local body elections should also be held with in the period of 100 days after completion of Lok Sabha and State Assembly Elections.

Mr. Singh was addressing a special dialogue on the topic of demystifying the One Nation, One Election at Raj Bhawan in Patna last evening.

The senior politician cited that research corroborates the states which go to the simultaneous poll had better GDP growth and lots of saving of public money. He said such elections benefit the economy and governance and frequent elections hinder the quality of governance.
