13 newly elected members of Uttar Pradesh legislative council took the oath of office and secrecy on Friday afternoon. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Tilak Hall located in the main building of the Secretariat. All the 13 newly elected MLCs were administered the oath by Legislative Council Chairman Kunwar Manvendra Pratap Singh.
13 seats of the Legislative Council had become vacant in May. 10 NDA candidates had filed nomination forms on these seats, out of which 7 candidates were from BJP, one each from Rashtriya Lok Dal, Suhaildev Bhartiya Samaj Party and Apna Dal Sonelal. Whereas, Samajwadi party had fielded candidates on 3 seats. Voting took place on 21 March and all candidates won unopposed.
The 13 MLCs including senior BJP leaders Dr. Mahendra Singh, Ashok Katariya, Vijay Bahadur Pathak and Ashish Patel, Executive President of Apna Dal sonelal took the oath today.
