President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on imported automobiles and parts. It will take effect from April 2, the same day the U.S. launches its new reciprocal tariff system. The tariff will apply to all cars and trucks assembled outside the U.S. and shipped in, affecting about half of all vehicles sold in the country. Trump also signaled plans to impose tariffs on other goods, including pharmaceuticals. While the reciprocal tariff system aims to respond to foreign duties on U.S. goods, he indicated it will not be strictly equal, though no country will be exempt.
