Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Neighbourhood First is the main policy of his government and improving cross border connectivity is an important aspect of it. He was speaking after jointly inaugurating the Jogbani-Biratnagar Integrated Check Post, ICP with his Nepalese counterpart K P Sharma Oli.  This was done through video conferencing today.

"नेबरहुड में मैं सभी मित्र देशों के साथ आवागमन को सरल और सुचारू बनाने और हमारे बीच व्यापार, संस्कृति, शिक्षा इत्यादि सभी क्षेत्रों में संपर्क को और सुगम बनाने के लिए भारत प्रतिबद्ध है।"

Mr Modi said, the issue of better connectivity becomes more important if it concerns India and Nepal. He said that their relations are not simply of neighbours, but of history and geography. The Prime Minister said, the Government of India is committed to develop better transportation facilities with all friendly nations. He said, it seeks to further develop relations in areas like trade, culture and education. He said, India is working on cross connectivity projects Road, Rail and Transmission lines in Nepal.
In his address, Prime Minster of Nepal K P Sharma Oli said his government remains committed to work closely with the Government of India.

"The time has come to resolve all pending issues through dialogue in the lasting  interest of our two countries and a stable majority government in both countries is a opportune moment. My government remains committed to working closely with the government of India towards this end."

Today is the last day for filing of nominations for Delhi Assembly Elections. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held tomorrow, while names can be withdrawn till Friday. AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal  as well will file his nomination papers today.
Meanwhile, Congress released its third list of five candidates today. Former Rajya Sabha MP Parvez Hashmi has been fielded from the Okhla constituency. Former MLA Mukesh Sharma is the nominee from Vikaspuri seat.
Election for 70 Assembly seats will be held on 8th of next month.Counting of votes will be taken up on 11th February.

Several Union Ministers are visiting Jammu and Kashmir today as part of the Public Outreach Programme in the newly created Union Territory. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar is scheduled to visit Ramban district . Moreover, other Union Ministers including Kiren Rijiju, Anurag Thakur, and Nitin Gadkari are also visiting. Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi kick started the valley leg of the programme today. He said, skill development will increase job opportunities for Kashmiri youth.

"स्किल डेवलपमेंट के जरिये रोज़गार  और रोज़गार  के मौके हमारे नौजवानों को मिल सके, हमारे नौजवान जो हैं वो अपना खुद कारोबार खोल सकें और फिर जहां कहीं कहीं रोज़गार  हासिल कर सकें, उसका एक बहुत बड़े लेवल पर हमने कार्यक्रम बनया हुआ हैं स्कीम बनाई हुई हैं और हर इलाके मैं हम हुनर हाट के जरिये बच्चे और बच्चिया अपने स्किल डेवलपमेंट के काम को कर के रोज़गार और  रोज़गार के मौके शुरू कर सकें"

"A group of 14 Union Ministers is in Jammu and Kashmir today as part of Public Outreach Programme, thirteen of them are in Jammu Division. The Ministers started their tours early in the morning. They are inaugurating several developmental projects and holding public interactions amid cold conditions. Mukhtar Abbass Naqvi reached Srinagar where he is scheduled to inaugurate several projects. So far, this is the largest delegation of Union Ministers who have reached J&K in the last four days, as part of this mission, which will continue till 24th of this month.N. In Jammu & Kashmir, two terrorists were killed in an ongoing counter-terrorist operation launched in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this morning. Two J&K Police personnel have been wounded in the encounter so far.
Security sources said that a joint party of security forces launched cordon and search operation on the basis of presence of terrorists in Awantipora area. The hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately at approach, and two terrorists were killed during the initial gunfight. The operation is in progress in the area.

"Despite of biting cold and dense fog thousands of BJP workers and general public have reached Ram Katha Park in Lucknow to listen Home Minister who is interacting first time on CAA with the people of state. migrants in large numbers from different parts of state especially from districts of Tarai region  have also come to express solidarity with the government and to thank the Home Minister for giving them what they call a new lease of life. Families of Some of them migrated decades back . Democrats are calling for his removal from office, whereas Republicans are determined to acquit him. The 100 members of the Senate will gather at 1 P.M. local time with Chief Justice John Roberts presiding over the trial.
Just 10 months remain before Americans go to polls to decide whether to re-elect Trump.

President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro will arrive in New Delhi on Friday on a four-day state visit to India. President Bolsonaro will be the chief guest at the 71st Republic Day Parade. He will be accompanied by a delegation of seven Ministers, Chairman of Brazil-India Friendship Group in the Brazilian Parliament, senior officials and a large business delegation. ​President Bolsonaro will meet President Ram Nath Kovind on 25th of January, who will host a Banquet in his honour.

In Cricket, India have won the toss and opted to field against Japan in the ICC Under -19 World Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After early blows Japan were 14 for 2 in 7  overs when the last reports came in. Earlier, India cruised to a 90-run victory over Sri Lanka in their opening group league encounter on Sunday.  Japan, on the other hand, were lucky to have garnered a point after their first match against New Zealand was washed out in Potchefstroom on Saturday. India lead the points tally in Group-A and a victory will virtually guarantee them a place in the last-eight round. India will play New Zealand in their last group match on the 24th of this month.

In the Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have won the girls and boys Under-21 titles in hockey. In the girls final, Haryana defeated Jharkhand by 5 goals to 3. On the other hand, UP boys clinched the title by defeating Haryana in penalty. In boxing Under-17 boys and girls finals, Maharashtra and Haryana are clinching most of the gold medals that are at stake today. Haryana won five and Maharashtra, four gold medals. Kalpana, Rinku, Tamanna, Tannu and Priyanshu won golds for Haryana. Maharashtra pugilist Sanjeet, Vijay, Shaikhom and Yaiphaba clinched gold medals. A report:

A total of 57 gold medals will be decided today in multiple events including swimming and boxing. Harayana girls hockey team coach Azad Singh Malik has all praise for his players after winning the back to back gold in the Khelo India.

In boxing, Maharashtra and Haryana are vying for the maximum gold medals.  Maharastra boxers Sanjeet, Vijay , Shaikhom ,Yaiphaba clinched gold in their respective categories.

In swimming, all eyes are set on Assan swimmer Shivangi Sarma and Karnataka boy Srihari Nataraj. In football,  Assam is now playing against Mizoram in boys under 17 category gold medal match. With Shashank Kumar, Manas Pratim Sarma, AIR News, Guwahati."
