Pro-Khalifa Haftar forces 'block oil exports' from key Libya ports

AIR
In Libya, forces loyal to military strongman Khalifa Haftar has blocked oil exports from country's main ports on the eve of peace talks in Berlin.

The string of export hubs along Libya's northeastern coast has been controlled by Haftar who is at war with the UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) since 2016.

Turkey has backed the Tripoli-based GNA, which is battling an offensive by Haftar's forces to seize the capital.

Haftar and GNA head Fayez al-Sarraj are expected to join the leaders of Russia, Turkey and France at a summit in Berlin today aimed at bringing peace to Libya. After months of combat, which has killed more than 2,000 people, a ceasefire took effect on January 12 backed by both Ankara and Moscow. Moscow is accused of supporting Haftar.

Meanwhile, the National Oil Company has warned that the closure of the country's "oil crescent" will cause Libya's daily crude production to plunge from 1.3 million barrels to 500,000 barrels and cause losses of 55 Million Dollar a day.
