Bombay HC summons additional chief secretary over slow progress in Pansare murder case

FILE PIC: PTI
Bombay High Court has summoned Maharashtra Home Department's additional chief secretary to explain the cause of the slow progress made into the Govind Pansare murder case.

A bench of Justices S C Dharamadhikari and B P Colabawalla said, the state has been reduced to a laughing stock by adopting elementary methods in probing Pansare's killing.

Asking the secretary to appear before the court on 28th March, the court said it is a tragedy that judiciary has to intervene to push the state to efficiently probe each and every case.

It said that a perception has been created that certain people can get away and remain un-investigated only because they enjoy a certain patronage.

The bench also directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the 2013 killing of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, to tie-up all lose ends in its investigation without further delay.

The high court has been hearing a plea filed by the family members of Dabholkar and Pansare seeking a court- monitored probe in both the cases.
