Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the government is focusing on integrated farming for the benefit of farmers. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Sixth International Agronomy Congress in New Delhi today, Mr Chouhan said that integrated farming must be promoted for marginal farmers. He urged the agro scientists to make a plan related to integrated farming for the next five years.
The Minister highlighted that 46 per cent of the country’s population is still dependent on farming and emphasised the importance of research and data in agriculture to promote diversification of crops.
The three-day event will feature plenary sessions, thematic symposia, keynote lectures, poster presentations, an exhibition, and a dedicated Young Scientists and Students’ Conference. The theme for this year is Re-envisioning Agronomy for Smart Agro-Food Systems and Environmental Protection.
